Around 400 experts and executives gathered at the re:think diversity Congress at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) in Vienna.

We at Sprachpilot were delighted to accompany the large-scale event and provide accessible communication through live text: combining professional speech-to-text interpreting (CART) with simultaneous AI live translation, allowing attendees to follow the proceedings live on their own smartphones or tablets via QR code.

The Setup at a Glance

  • Event: re:think diversity Congress (400 guests, WKO Vienna)
  • Languages: German & English (bidirectional)
  • Service: Live captioning by professional speech-to-text interpreters + simultaneous real-time AI translation

Speech-to-Text Interpreting + AI: How the Live Setup Worked

The majority of the congress was held in German, with one prominent keynote delivered in English. Instead of relying on error-prone automatic speech recognition alone, our qualified speech-to-text interpreters created the live captions directly – ensuring utmost accuracy for speaker names, accents, and specialized DEIB terminology:

  • Main program in German: For all German-language presentations and discussions, we typed the live captions in real time. Our connected AI translated this verified live text simultaneously into English for all international guests.
  • English keynote: During the English-language presentation, we captured the live English captions directly – and the AI translated simultaneously into German.

Audience access was completely hassle-free: By scanning an on-site QR code, attendees connected directly on their own device (smartphone or tablet) to read the live stream in their preferred language – fully accessible, discreet, and without the need to distribute classic interpreter headsets.

The Value for Large Events: Accessibility & Multilingualism

This setup connects barrier-free inclusion directly with international reach (Curb-Cut Effect):

  • Genuine Accessibility: Deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees can follow the entire program independently and in real time.
  • Multilingual Reach: International guests understand German presentations effortlessly – and vice versa.
  • Enhanced Audience Focus: Reading along on personal devices enables all 400 guests to absorb complex topic points with ease – even from the rear rows.
